Creátre Cultural Arts Program at Chambers Park, Kissimmee!

During the weeks of November 7th - 19th, the Creátre Cultural Arts Program took place at the Cornelius Chambers Community Center in Kissimmee.  This program gave youth who otherwise would not have the opportunity the chance to learn several different art forms. Take a look at the progress these youth made during the program!

Creátre Cultural Arts Program at Harvest Baptist Academy!

The Creátre Cultural Arts Program had its second session at Harvest Baptist Academy Aug 3rd - 12th.  Approximately 17 youth participated in this program that focused on the rich heritage of Africa through the African drumming segment.  Take a look at what they did!

Creátre Cultural Arts Program at the Boys & Girls Club

The Creátre Cultural Arts Program was designed to develop the artistic talent of youth who would not have otherwise had the opportunity.  With budget cuts and limited funding directed towards arts programs, many youth simply do not have the opportunity to explore artistic avenues.  In just two weeks, take a look at what these youth were able to do with their opportunity:

Poetry

The the Poetry segment, instructors challenge youth to think laterally as well as how to more effectively express themselves through the creative process.  Youth learned various literary devices and how to create and present their own poetry.

Painting

Instructors lead the Painting segment, giving participants an overview of art from various parts of the world.  The youth take from these ideas and collectively use their creativity to create their own art.

African Percussion

A.D Daisley (Executive Director) introduces his group to the rich sound of African percussion.  Through this class, youth learn the history of traditional African rhythms along with how to play those rhythms, paying particular attention to producing the correct notes using the djembe!

Songwriting & Recording

Our instructors give the youth education on the history and development of Hip-Hop, as well as give them tips on the creative process of composing lyrics!

As a part of the program, participants in the Songwriting & Recording segment got to compose and record their own lyrics.  Click below to listen to their song "Make A Change."

Guitar

Our instructor introduces first-time players to guitar basics.  Besides learning the parts of the guitar, youth learned finger positioning, note locations, and basic chord structure.

Thanks goes out to....YOU!!

First, thanks goes out to my team!  I could not have done this without you.  Thanks to Elena Daisley for all the behind the scenes work.  I greatly appreciate you!

In addition, thanks goes out to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida for the collaboration.  Thank you Tasha Robinson-Banks, Depree Bowden, Oneka Burnett-Balthazar and Eric Cressor.  Thanks also goes out to all of our participants for being attentive and making this a great experience for everyone, including the staff!

Finally, a special thanks goes to Julie Tindall from the City of Orlando and Angie Sola of Disney.  Without your support and belief in the program, we would not have been able to do what we have done.  THANK YOU!!
